Schwinn home treadmills are owned and manufactured Nautilus Fitness who have been in the exercise equipment business since 1986.
Nautilus also owns Stairmaster, Bowflex and Trimline. They're the second largest producer of exercise equipment in North America (after Icon).
Schwinn has had past success with their treadmills - their Schwinn 820p treadmill earned a 'Best Buy' rating from a leading Consumer magazine several years ago.
However it looks like Schwinn will be discontinuing their treadmill lineup and focusing more on the elliptical and bike market.
We're not really sure why since the Schwinn 820p was quite popular. However Nautilus already has other treadmill and equipment lineups that are doing well like the Bowflex treadmills, Bowflex treadclimbers and Nautilus treadmills.
If you really like the Nautilus name, we'd recommend looking perhaps at one of these lines (with Bowflex treadmills being similarly priced to the older Schwinn models.)
However if you don't really care about the Nautilus names, you might want to look at the Nordic track lineup or the Smooth lineup - which both offer excellent value treadmills for around the same price range as the older Schwinn models.
Should you choose to buy a treadmill by Schwinn?
Although there are some Schwinn models still kicking around at Amazon, we probably would not recommend them, as they don't rate very well with users (2 out of 5 stars).
Plus it may be difficult to get your treadmill serviced by Schwinn once the product line has been discontinued.
